CO2 Calculation of Heat Exchangers

Heatex is dedicated to making the world safer, healthier, and more productive—that's why we have added a CO₂ emissions calculation to our selection software, Heatex Select.

Presenting CO₂ emissions helps AHU manufacturers support regulatory compliance and align with climate goals.

CO₂ and Heat Recovery

The CO₂ emissions for each component in an AHU are calculated based on the materials used (e.g., steel, aluminum).

For heat exchangers, the CO₂ emissions are calculated based on the proportion of steel and aluminum in the unit. For example, a typical plate heat exchanger might consist of 17–34% steel and 66–83% aluminum by weight, and for rotary heat exchangers, the aluminum proportion may be even higher.

The CO₂ emissions for each component are calculated by multiplying the material weight by the CO₂ factor for that material. Transport, manufacturing, energy, and maintenance are also included in the total CO₂ calculation.

For a typical AHU, the material-related CO₂ emissions can be a significant part of the total environmental impact. Still, the energy savings during operation (thanks to the heat recovery unit) far outweigh the initial emissions from production.

In Heatex Select Online, we present the result of the CO₂ emissions generated by a specific product configuration in the Summary section. The CO₂ calculation is also available in our DLL. We hope that sharing CO₂ data helps our AHU customers to choose smarter, greener solutions while building trust and meeting climate goals.
